What to Expect

Whether you’ve gone to a chiropractor from a young age, or you’ve never been adjusted before, we’ll take the time to understand your specific condition, your pain, and how we can find the solution.

New Patients

If you haven’t been to Shephard Chiropractic before, there are some things you should know before we meet.

Exams

All 1st visits also have an exam. The doctors need to evaluate your condition and make sure that you are a good chiropractic case and properly understand your condition.

X-Rays

Sometimes it's important to see what is going on inside of your body. Based on your exam, your doctor might recommend x-rays be taken. X-rays are only requested when needed and can be done onsite.

Payment Options

On your first visit, you'll need to tell us how you plan on paying for your visit. Our flexible options include cash, credit card, health insurance, worker's comp insurance (work injuries), and auto insurance (auto accidents).

Patient Responsibility

Most likely, your condition wasn't created overnight. Correcting a problem area oftentimes includes chiropractic adjustments, exercises, and sometimes massage. Each treatment plan is custom based on your needs, and for the best benefit, fully commit to your treatment plan.

Forms

To minimize waiting time on your first visit, please fill out the forms below at your own convenience. The file is named ‘New Patient Packet.’ If you were involved in a motor vehicle, bicycle, or pedestrian crash, please fill out the personal injury questionnaire as well.

Insurance

Though chiropractic care may not be outlined clearly in your benefits package, many insurance companies provide coverage for your treatment.

  • Blue-Cross Blue Shield is in-network with our clinic. Don’t worry, even if you have different insurance there is usually out of network options for you.

  • Our team is happy to complete a complimentary insurance verification for you.

  • We will bill insurance on your behalf.

Motor Vehicle Accidents

After a car accident, it’s best to seek care as soon as possible. Auto accidents can involve muscles, joints, ligaments, discs and sometimes your nerves or brain–chiropractic can help diminish pain and inflammation. The sooner you seek treatment, the sooner we can help you get back to your normal life.

  • We’ll guide you through the process of getting treatment and claims set up.

  • We’ll coordinate with other care providers to offer comprehensive care.

  • We’ll help you learn which paperwork you need, and who to contact if you need legal support.

Work Injuries

If you were injured at work, we’re here to help. The paperwork associated with workers’ compensation can be challenging to work through but we’re here to help it go smoothly, so you can focus on healing.

  • Your employer will require specific paperwork–we’ll help you get what you need for a streamlined treatment and claims process.

  • If you need care from other providers, we’ll coordinate with them to make sure you’re on the road to recovery.

  • We’ll ensure you understand the process, paperwork, and how to obtain legal aid if needed.

Pay as you Go

You may not have insurance coverage for chiropractic, but we still want to help you feel your best. We have two easy options for cash patient payments:

  • Monthly Plans – We’ll use your treatment plan to lay out the estimated costs for each month, and have you pay once every 30 days in accordance with the services you receive.

  • Time of Service – Simply pay after each appointment.

Common Questions

After 15 years of providing traditional chiropractic treatment, in 2002 Dr. Shephard discontinued the older method and adopted a modern, gentle form of manipulating the human spine. This new approach is generally referred to as ‘light’ or ‘controlled’ force adjusting. This new development within the chiropractic profession assures increased safety and better outcomes. Dr. Shephard has been pleased with the level of patient satisfaction and the results attained.

Controlled force spinal adjusting employs a specific approach using only as much force as is needed to facilitate a response. This is achieved with an FDA approved instrument called the Arthrostim™. This device, along with several other instruments, consistently achieves remarkably gentle and rapid healing.

Motorized adjusting employs a controlled force and concentrates on three key tissue types: osseous (joint), muscle, and ligament. By addressing all three components at each visit, the doctor is able to maximize results. Using the Arthrostim™ adjusting tool provides pinpoint accuracy in which only the vertebrae and related tissues involved are corrected.

Certainly. Physical therapy, pain management, exercise rehabilitation and other forms of conventional treatment work nicely in conjunction with our technique.

In the state of Oregon, passengers including children may also receive a minimum of $15,000 in medical care through the insured driver’s PIP. Policies from other states will vary. What if it was my fault? The $15,000 PIP for medical care is still available to you if you are at fault in an accident and insured.

If you are an insured driver in Oregon involved in a car accident, you are eligible to receive a minimum of $15,000 to use for your medical care through your Personal Injury Protection (PIP). Chiropractic, massage, physical therapy, acupuncture are all covered as part of your medical care for your auto injuries.

Some of the most serious cases we see are those auto accidents involving a pedestrian or bicyclist. Your medical care is often covered through your auto insurance, and we will be happy to help you confirm your coverage.
