I’m Dr. Mario Tomaino from Shepherd Chiropractic Clinic here to talk to you about a low level laser therapy, a treatment that we offer here at the clinic. The great thing about a low-level laser is it’s painless and it’s very effective for different conditions, including swelling, inflammation, pain pain reduction in general, overall improvement of health. The way it works is the lasers penetrate into the tissue. It stimulates the cells to increase cellular activity, basically increasing energy produced by the cell, decreasing inflammation, improving circulation to the area and facilitating wound healing and tissue healing as well. So it’s great for sprains strains. It’s great for traumas. It’s great for just general aches and pains that you might have throughout your body.
The low-level laser is provided by a company called Erchonia and they are the only company that is FDA approved for their laser technology. The way that the laser functions is it penetrates into the cellular membrane of the tissue and allows the mitochondria to produce ATP at a faster level, increasing the energy of the cell and increasing the overall productivity of itself. Whereas surgical lasers are hot. These are a cold laser, so you don’t really feel any kind of sensation at all while the treatment is going on. Some patients do report a slight tingling, maybe a little bit of warmth in the area, but that’s about all, most people don’t really feel anything. Next I’ll demonstrate just a typical treatment with the laser. we’ll be doing some work on the shoulder.
Okay. The shoulder joint see the one laser we have going through the front side here, and then we have a pulse-laser they’re both intermittently pulsed where they send a variety of current through there. The wavelengths does not change at 625 nanometers. However, we do change the frequency of the wavelength depending on what our goals are. So in this, in this particular case we’re more working towards a chronic pain type of a situation where she’s had a chronic pain in her shoulder for a number of years. So we’re trying to decrease inflammation, increase the healing.
The wavelengths you could see with the light as it pulses from time to time, that’s basically to penetrate into the tissue, stimulate the cellular membrane and within, within the tissues to allow the light to have effect on the inner structures of the, of the cell itself.
